Solid colors in a medium shade work best. No patterns, stripes, prints or dots. Colors that are too dark, too light, black, or white do not pop out as much online as clothing rich in color in a medium shade. So as a general rule stay away from white, black, gray, and brown for commercial photographs. For more dramatic theatrical shots black works out for some people really well.
Suits can be black or gray for commercial shots.
Another exception is patterns that spell out a specific character iconically. Although the pattern may be distracting from your face, it may just get you the audition because it’s so specific to the character they’re casting. Example: A casting director is trying to cast a farmer for a new milk commercial. They are scrolling through 1000 thumbnails of submitted headshots and see some guy in a red plaid flannel shirt and overalls, this is iconic farmer attire. That level of specificity will at least get a casting director to take a second look if not get you a call in for the audition. Here the distracting pattern (red plaid) worked in the actors favor. This rule can apply to other things like stripes to illustrate a loud character type, or a crazy print shirt for a rocker type.
Professionals
For most professionals you can wear anything you want as long as it’s appropriate for your line of work. Avoiding patterns or busy clothing often yields the best results. text goes here

I shoot everyone a little differently, depending on their personality and needs. Sometimes people need direction and so I’ll give it. Sometimes people know what to do and so I’ll just throw ideas out there and they’re free to take off with them. I love to hear your ideas and feedback and I’m open to anyway and anything people want to shoot. If you bring in sample shots I can reproduce the lighting and feel of them for you.
-
Yes. Guys usually don’t need a makeup artist. If you’d like to have it done by a professional please book it with your session. Anthony will do light make up free of charge for men.
-
Yes. If anything I do goes wrong during the shoot that would require a reshoot, the reshoot is free (lighting, lack of expression, poor background choice). If you do something wrong, like wear facial hair and then find out afterward your agents wants it clean shaven then in that case I’ll reshoot at half price. It’s always best to have a detailed conversation about what your agent or manager wants BEFORE taking photos. If you are to wake up with a swollen face from an allergic reaction on the day of the shoot, just let me know and we’ll reschedule rather than waste time taking photos that won’t work.

More people wear a darker colored jacket and light shit under.
Don't over or underdress for your market. Business casual for some industies is more appropriate than a full suit.
