Anthony's 5-Step System for Powerful Acting Headshots

The system Anthony Mongiello uses to create acting headshots that get actors called in — informed by 18+ years of working with actors, agents, and casting directors in Los Angeles.

Step 1: Know Your Casting

Before picking up a camera, we define your most castable types. The best headshots don't try to show everything — they show the specific character you are most likely to be hired to play.

Step 2: Master Wardrobe

Wardrobe communicates character before a word is spoken. We guide every client through wardrobe selection to match their casting type and ensure clothing doesn't distract from their face.

Step 3: Nail the Lighting

Studio lighting is tailored to each client's skin tone, facial structure, and casting type. We shoot with the Canon EOS R5, a 45-megapixel camera that captures exceptional detail under controlled studio conditions.

Step 4: Show Your Personality

The best headshots capture authentic expression — not a manufactured smile. Anthony directs clients through specific scenarios and emotions to draw out genuine, castable looks.

Step 5: Retouch Right

Professional retouching removes temporary blemishes while preserving natural skin texture. Over-retouched headshots don't get actors called in — they look fake. We find the right balance.
